NSAR’s Skills Intelligence Model (SIM) was used to model future workforce requirements in a report released recently by the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC). OWIC is a senior government and industry forum established in 2013 to drive the development of the world-leading offshore wind sector in the UK.
The SIM was used to forecast potential future skills and jobs growth in the offshore wind industry out to 2030. The report shows that by 2030, the industry will employ over 97,000 people in the UK (61,000 direct jobs and 36,000 indirect). This forecast highlights that the industry could potentially deliver more than twice the target on direct jobs set in the Offshore Wind Sector Deal between the UK offshore wind sector and the government.
The report provides an example of how NSAR’s SIM can help organisations and sectors with data services and workforce planning. The SIM is a centralised platform that uses anonymised data collected from industry employers to guide decision-making on skills investment requirements.
